Frog Floating on a Lily Pad Figurine Limoges Box

A small frog floats on a water lily pad, perched on top as though waiting for a passing fly. This calm pond scene is a hand-painted porcelain figurine box, made in Limoges, France.

Life on the Lily Pad

The lily pad forms the base and the frog sits right on top, giving the piece a low, relaxed shape. The fresh green of pad and frog brings a bit of the garden pond indoors, whatever the weather outside.

Pond Collectors Take Note

• Hand-painted porcelain from Limoges, France
• Fits a frog, pond or water garden grouping
• Pairs with the little frog on a lillypad and turtle pieces

Leap Into a Gift

It suits a gardener with a koi pond, a biology teacher, a friend who collects frogs of every kind or someone settling into a lakeside home. Frogs are also a traditional token of good luck in some cultures, which makes it a kind choice for a new beginning.

From Clay Pit to Pond

The kaolin, the fine white clay that made Limoges porcelain possible, was found near Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche in 1768, and the craft has been rooted there ever since. Set this frog on a windowsill above the sink, a bathroom shelf or a curio cabinet beside other water creatures.
